Ottelia Ovalifolia is the horticultural name for the waterlily that blooms with white and purple flowers on John and Melissas property, it hosts a chorus of native frogs at night and provides the namesake for Johns fascination, his wine label Ottelia.

Historically the hardy native grew abundantly across the region; borrowing the name for the wine seemed fitting given the years invested in working in the areas vineyards.

The Ottelia Riesling 2017 has aromas of fragrant lime, lemon thyme and citrus blossom.

Eloquent flavours of grapefruit, herbal and mineral qualities with tingling cool climate acidity and an engaging finish.

The citrus is unsweetened green grapefruit juice and zest, acidity a given but nonetheless playing an important role. Trophy Best White Wine Limestone Coast Wine Show ’17 not the least surprising. For the record, pH 2.83, titratable acidity 9.36g/l and residual sugar 6g/l.”

It takes flavour and drills it through the palate. This is one helluva searing wine, though it makes a (thorough) success of the style. Citrus, slate, lemon sorbet, zest and rind and juice and everything. With oysters or white-fleshed seafood it would be darned brilliant now but really, it has cellarworthiness written all over it.”
