• Decanter: Nuanced flavours and aromas of tangerine, peach, fresh dried petals, citrus, honey and gentle spice. Very rounded, soft and appealing, whilst maintaining freshness and depth. Vey good.

• James Suckling: A pale peach-colored ros with aromas of roses, strawberries, raspberries and nectarines. Its medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a juicy, creamy palate. Deliciously fruity with good concentration and length.

Producer Information

Chteau d’Esclans is a wine producer in Provence, specializing in full-bodied, dry ros wines primarily from the Grenache wine grape variety. The flagship wine is the top-of-the-range Garrus cuve, which is one of the most important (and highly priced) ros wines in Provence. It was first produced in 2006 and was met with high acclaim. Since, only tiny quantities of the toasty, full-bodied and highly sought after ros is made each vintage. It is also reputable for its entry-level Whispering Angel Ros, which is exported around the world to multiple countries. The chteau was built in the 12th Century and is located on an elevated site, between Saint-Tropez and Cannes. About 44 hectares (110 ac) here are under vine, with Grenache, Mourvdre, Cinsaut, Rolle and Syrah all represented. Some of the Grenache vines at the highest elevations are up to 90 years old, making them some of the oldest in Provence. These low-yielding vines give the d’Esclans wines concentration and richness.
