Chteau Palmer
Alter Ego de Palmer is a distinct expression of Chteau Palmer, first released in 1998 to reveal a more vibrant and approachable facet of Margauxs terroir. While the Grand Vin was honored as the Second Apostle in the renowned manga The Drops of God for its 1999 vintage.
All great terroirs overlook the river. The vineyards lie on the Plateau des Brauzes, a gravelly rise shaped by the Garonne River across two ice ages. The grapes selected for Alter Ego come from parcels meticulously managed by the estate, reflecting four centuries of dedication to this exceptional land.
With a typically higher proportion of Merlot (around 45%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, Alter Ego delivers supple texture, vivid fruit, and layered complexity. It is, quite literally, the other self of Palmersharing its soul, yet speaking in a different tone.
Since 2004, Chteau Palmer has been led by visionary winemaker Thomas Duroux, who transitioned the estate to biodynamic viticulture and reduced the use of sulphur dioxide. These practices, applied equally to Alter Ego, allow the wines to express their origin with purity, depth, and authenticity.

The 2015 Alter Ego de Palmer has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and gorgeous nose of ripe plums, cassis and crushed cherries with touches of incense, lavender and chocolate box. Medium-bodied, very finely crafted and vivacious in the mouth, it finishes with great elegance and finesse.
(James Suckling’s rating: 96 points)
This is sensational, characterized by such purity and beauty and with aromas of blackberries, dark chocolate, walnuts, cedar and lavender. Full-bodied, tight and focused in part thanks to sensational tannin tension that is intense yet polished… Great second wine of Palmer.
