The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Verdad comes from thinner, rockier soils, and I always find a more Pauillac-like structure and character in this cuve. Smoky currants, lead pencil, graphite, and crushed stone all define the aromatics, and it’s full-bodied on the palate, with beautiful overall balance, a layered, deep, concentrated mid-palate, and substantial tannins. It has the fruit to offer pleasure in its youth, yet this is one where the cellar will be your friend.

The most structured of the four Las Piedras offerings from Carter, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Verdad features aromas of red-skinned plums, ripe cherries, crushed stone and hints of dried spices. It’s full-bodied but focused and linear in shape, with a long, silky finish that showcases tensile strength of the wine’s fine-grained tannins.
