Chateau Tanunda, established in 1890, is the largest and oldest wine Chateau in Australia. It is also a designated monument in Australias Register of State Heritage. The Bavarian-style Chateau is the site of some of the first vines planted in the Barossa as well as the Valleys first winery. But with the poor maintenance, the chateau fell into decay. Untill one morning in 1998, the chateau finally met its new owner. A wine enthusiast and successful businessman whose ancestors planted grapes in South Africa in 19th Century, John Gaber, who was on his morning bike ride that day, was fascinated with the magnificent Chateau with high potentials of making good wines. On the very next day, he made an immediate decision to buy the Chateau which had been waiting for a potential buyer for a long time. After years of efforts, John successfully revived the once decayed Chateau and let it thrive again. Chateau Tanunda handcrafts their wines by combining traditional method and modern technology, with minimal intervention to allow the true character of grapes to express themselves, making bottles of characteristic wines.

Nobel Baron wines integrate the best of European style, with the exceptional quality and unique characters of Australian, Barossa fruit. The style is classic and refined, combining both traditional and modern techniques to make notable wines of the highest class.

Country of Origin:
Australia

Region:
Single Vineyard in the Bethany sub-region, Barossa Valley, Australia

Type:
Red/Rouge (Still)

Grape Varieties:
89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc,5% Shiraz

Winemaking:
The grapes were handpicked from prime, low-yielding vineyards from some of the Barossas most renowned sub-regions, including Greenock and Lydoch. They were destemmed, but not crushed, treated with utmost care during the winemaking process. Prior to basket-pressing, the grapes were carefully hand-plunged. And French oak barrels were used for maturing.

Tasting Notes:
Noble Baron Cabernet Sauvignon is a superb handcrafted wine of complexity and intensity. Brillant ruby red in colour, the bouquet displays enticing aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, green tea and mint. The palate is rich and concentrated while the elegant French Oak gives a subtle lift to the wine. Soft supple tannins add to the texture and weight, and the long, lingering finish. The wine will age gracefully for 10 years plus.
