Chteau de Lacquy is a 400 hectares estate with vineyard on 20 hectares situated in the best part of Armagnac area in Gascony (South West of France). The estate and the mansion have belonged to the same family since 1711. 18th centurys papers show that the estate was already producing Armagnac with its own still. With 300 years and 11 successive generations, the estate is the oldest family-owned producer of Armagnac.
Chteau de Lacquy is the heart of this ‘gold triangle’ known as Grand Bas-Armagnac. The estate comprises vast wooded area and lakes at the edge of Europe’s largest forest. Ancient oaks, beeches, chestnut trees, wild cherry trees, provide shelter for equally abundant and varied wildlife. The 20ha of vines are planted in the very heart of this area.
Vintage Armagnacfrom the same year taken from different barrels and varietals, or sometimes a single varietal, and blended together to express the best of that year.Every year the vintage is blended and bottled in keeping with sales, and otherwise continues to age and develop in the barrel.
Each vintage year is bottled at its natural alcoholic degree, with no reduction. That means that nothing is added no woodsy products, no caramel, no sugar, no colouring. These additives can also be used to make a given Armagnac more uniform. Chteau de Lacquy Armagnacs are not standardised by such additives. This means that each vintage year at Chteau de Lacquy is unique and it is a great pleasure to compare different vintages.
