Puglian Primitivo is seriously fruity and bold (BBC Good Food magazine) and this is one of the most appealing. Well, it is from Scipione Giuliani, the maker of your No.1 most reordered red. A powerful, rich, special edition of adored Il Papavero. Its no coincidence the Papavero family of wines are amongst our customers favourites winemaker Scipione Giuliani always manages to capture the very essence of the grape, the spirit of Italy and a delicious drinkability. This is the granddaddy of the group, made purely from Primitivo from a plot of 50-year-old vines, resulting in very concentrated flavour. Scipione discovered the vines in Puglia, and insisted that the grapes be bottled solo. To match the richness of the fruit he aged the wine in barrel for a few months, lending it mellow roundness and complexity. ll Papavero Primitivo is a weighty red, best served with similarly hearty food. Enjoy with spaghetti with tomato, garlic and basil sauce, or with roast meats or pork casserole.
