The name and bottle are inspired by the original J.H. Cutter whisky, which was a product offered by A.P. Hotaling in the mid to late 1800s. A.P. Hotaling was the largest liquor wholesaler on the West Coast in the late 1800s, and Hotaling warehouse in San Francisco famously survived the earthquake and fires in 1906.
