Il Poeta Barolo 2020, Barolo DOCG, Italy
Coming from the fabled, hilltop village of Barolo, Il Poeta holds the coveted Barolo del Comune di Barolo classification. Crafted by vigneron and poet Natale Seghesio who writes a new poem for each vintage the 2020 is particularly spectacular. As James Suckling says, Theres something special about the 2020 Barolo. Aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak casks plus 20 months in bottle before release, it brims with ripe blackberry, currant and cherry, plus spice and balsamic notes. It will cellar well for a decade;if drinking early, decant and pair with black truffle risotto or roasted red meats. Superb!

Boasso Franco Barolo del Comune di Serralunga 2021, Barolo DOCG, Italy
2021 was another great vintage, often compared to the legendary 2016. This sumptuous Barolo comes from the Boasso family, who own vineyards in Gabutti, Margheria and Lazzarito, some of the most important crus in Barolos Serralunga. Traditionally crafted with long maceration of the berries to ensure great depth of flavour and a maturation of at least 36 months in large wooden botti. Boassa is lusciously deep, rich and intense, with crunchy cherry fruit, polished tannins and freshness. To enjoy this young wine now, open early and decant to let the complex plum and cherry notes, and the famed rose, tar and violet flavours, come through. It will continue to improve for a decade or more.
