Louis Roederer Brut Vintage 2016 is a Grand Cru Champagne of exceptional refinement from one of the Champagne region’s most celebrated and historic houses, founded in 1776 and currently managed by Frederic Rouzaud. A blend of Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru of Verzy and Chardonnay from the Grand Cru of Chouilly, this is a vintage Champagne of real complexity, precision and elegance.
Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining family-owned Champagne houses, and its commitment to quality is unmatched. With over 240 hectares of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, the house is self-sufficient for 70% of its non-vintage production and 100% of its vintage Champagnes, a rare distinction that gives them complete control over quality from vine to bottle. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture, Roederer employs organic and regenerative practices across its vineyards, working in harmony with nature to express the finest terroir in Champagne. The 2016 vintage is a singular tribute to the Grand Cru of Verzy, producing wines of intense fruit character, silky texture and remarkable precision.
A blend of 68% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru of Verzy and 32% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru of Chouilly. Harvest took place from 15 September to 1 October. Approximately 33% of the wine underwent fermentation in oak, with 5% malolactic fermentation, and a dosage of 7g/l was applied to balance freshness and richness. The 2016 growing season brought a cool, wet spring followed by a warm, dry summer with a late August heatwave, favouring the Pinot Noir with intense fruit and silky texture, while the Chardonnay achieved a chiselled, saline profile.
Gently toasted, powdery aromas on the nose, blending ripe red fruits, Burlat cherry and redcurrant, candied citrus and roasted hazelnuts. Subtle mineral notes of sun-warmed chalk and calcareous millstone emerge with aeration. The palate is complex and generous, with a juicy, creamy body layered with nectarine-like fruit. Silky, delicate bubbles enhance the texture, while mineral, spicy and lightly oaky notes provide structure. The finish is long, saline and precise, with refined sapidity and elegant persistence.
A superb aperitif and an exceptional partner for fine dining. Excellent with lobster, scallops, turbot, roast chicken, and soft-ripened cheeses. Also a magnificent gift for any special occasion.
