The 2021 Montalto Estate Pinot Noir has red and blue fruits, blood orange, florals, spice, earth, pink peppercorn, fresh herbs, forest floor, make for a wonderfully aromatic aroma profile. A core of quenching juicy red fruit is framed by plush structural tannins which carry the length of the palate. Moreish acidity gives purpose, brightness and a long expressive finish. \”Mainly from Red Hill, with some Main Ridge grapes. I sat down for a good chat and tasting with winemaker Simon Black today, whos the same vintage as me. Theres something about that year and good hair, is all I can see. Maybe it was the dawning of the age of Aquarius? This is a flat out charmer of a Pinot Noir. Im thinking bright red fruits, slightly earthy and spicy, lots of perfume, a smattering of aromatic herbs. Light to medium-bodied, very fine emery tannin gives it a straight back, and its fresh too, with spiced strawberry, and a long fine finish, just slightly sappy and nervy, with a bit of a mineral feel to acidity.
