The GlenDronach was one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland and itwas an early pioneer of sherry cask maturation since 1826.The distillery was one of the last to heat the stills by coal fire and converts to steam heating in 2005.
In 2016,Dr. Rachel Barrie is appointed Master Blender of The GlenDronach, Benriach and Glenglassaugh distilleries.She is commonly known as ScotlandsFirst Lady of whisky. She became the first female master blender to be awarded an honorary doctorate by her alma mater the University of Edinburgh. In bestowing the honour, the university cited Rachel Barries expertise and service to the whisky industry.
