Cristom helped pioneer Viognier in the Willamette Valley with our 1993 planting. Our 3.4 acres of Viognier vines are planted with multiple vine spacings, on three different rootstocks over bands of deep Jory and shallow and rocky volcanic soils. This diversity, along with different vine ages some 30 years old in the 2023 vintage contributes complexity and richness to the Viognier fruit, producing a wine with depth and interest.
Winemaking:Whole cluster pressed, settled overnight, and fermented with native yeasts in a combination of neutral French oak barrels, stainless steel tanks, and a concrete egg; no malolactic fermentation. Aged five months on its lees.
Tasting Notes:Fragrant aromas of citrus blossom, honeysuckle, key lime, turmeric, and flaky pie crust. The palate is lushly textured and exquisitely balanced, with bright acidity and a distinctive earthiness, complemented by juicy green citruspomelo and key limewhite tea, and a hint of salinity.
