Home to some of Washington States most celebrated vineyards, Red Mountain is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal southwest-facing slopes and significant day and nighttime temperature swings, this small but highly prized area in Eastern Washington produces exceptional wines. Named for the Canvasback duck, which is native to the Pacific Flyway, this wine was crafted from grapes cultivated by some of Red Mountains finest growers. With Canvasback, our aim is to express and develop the depth, structure and sophistication that define wines from this young and exciting appellation.

Winemaker Notes
From its inviting aromas of Damson plum, blueberry, black licorice and sarsaparilla to its holiday spice undercurrents of cardamom and cinnamon, this tantalizing wine rises from the glass beckoning a first sip. On the palate, a lovely mlange of dark red and black fruit flavors glide across plush tannins, with hints of incense, earth and graphite adding depth and nuance to a long, mineral-driven finish.
Production
A cold, dry winter on Red Mountain was followed by an equally cool spring, which led to a slightly later-than-normal budbreak and bloom. Following mid-June rains that significantly reduced the size of the crop, the weather turned hot in July and August, and we began picking our Syrah, Merlot and Malbec the first week of September. While the outbreak of wildfires in Oregon was a concern, after travelling more than 200 miles to Red Mountain, the impact of the smoke was minimal, and we were careful to exclude any impacted grapes. Instead, the driving characteristic of the vintage was the low yields, which despite the cool weather allowed the grapes to get beautifully ripe, producing wines with dark colors, plush creamy textures and rich, vibrant flavors.
